چکیده

Two high-speed stereo PIV (HS-SPIV) systems have been used for the characterization of pulsed and continuous jet actuators in the turbulent boundary layer (TBL) wind tunnel at ONERA Lille, an Eiffel type wind tunnel in suction mode with a low turbulence level. The test aimed at generating an aerodynamic database useful for the characterisation of (unsteady) vortical structures responsible for the wall-normal fluid exchange which enable an increase of wall-shear stress in the wake of the jet actuator row. Jet vortex generators are well-established for controlling resp. inhibiting flow separation in flows with adverse pressure gradients. Comparing the efficiency of continuous and pulsed jet vortex generators is still of big interest for TBL flows in many aerodynamic and technical flow systems. The dataset is also useful for the validation of CFD tools or simplified models for such flow control devices. The work has been realized in close collaboration between ONERA and DLR.

On Coherent Structures of Turbulent Open-channel Flow Above a Rough Bed

Present study examines turbulent structures of a rough bed open-channel flow in the context of deterministic approach. Instantaneous velocity field is measured in different hydraulic conditions using two dimensional Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) in vertical plane and Stereoscopic PIV in horizontal plane. Different techniques and quantities such as swirl strength, two-point and cross-correlat...

Large-eddy simulation of turbulent flow over an array of wall-mounted cubes submerged in an emulated atmospheric boundary-layer

Turbulent flow over an array of wall-mounted cubic obstacles has been numerically investigated using large-eddy simulation. The simulations have been performed using high-performance computations with local cluster systems. The array of cubes are fully submerged in a simulated deep rough-wall atmospheric boundary-layer with high turbulence intensity characteristics of environmental turbulent fl...

Investigation of three dimensionality in the near field of a round jet using stereo PIV

A round air jet at a Reynolds number of 19 000 was studied using stereo PIV techniques in an effort to understand the characteristics of all three velocity components in the developing shear layer and to study the evolution of three dimensionality with increasing axial distance. Pulsed laser sheets were aligned to illuminate the centreline plane of the jet. The stereo PIV set-up was suitably ca...

Light-in-flight holography with switched reference beams for cross-correlation in deep volume PIV

We present a holographic PIV system which extends the standard PIV analysis scheme of two velocity components (2D2C) to the third dimension and overcomes the disturbing background light in deep volume images reconstructed from particle holograms. In a light-in-flight holography (LiFH) setup the short coherence length of a modified laser source is used to suppress light from out-of-focus regions...

Effects of coupling on turbulent gas-particle boundary layer flows at borderline volume fractions using kinetic theory

This study is concerned with the prediction of particles’ velocity in a dilute turbulent gas-solidboundary layer flow using a fully Eulerian two-fluid model. The closures required for equationsdescribing the particulate phase are derived from the kinetic theory of granular flows. Gas phaseturbulence is modeled by one-equation model and solid phase turbulence by MLH theory. Resultsof one-way and...
